TRADE MANAGEMENT TRAINING 1 (TMT1)

1. Aim of the Course. The aim of the Trade Management Training No 1 course (TMT 1) is to provide formal Trade Management Training for airmen who are to be promoted to JNCO level in Trade Groups 5 , 6 and 13 (Ptr & Fnr). Specifically:
a. To make clear the engineering and safety regulations to be observed by personnel under their control.b. To discuss methods of supervision.
c. To practice supervision.
d. To encourage the student to broaden their horizons and become aware of their responsibilities to:
(1) Improve communication skills.(2) Management.
(3) Subordinates.
(4) Equipment in an engineering environment.
2. Summary of Training Requirements.
a. General. The requirement is to provide training for JNCOs in Quality Assurance, Health and Safety at Work, supervisory responsibilities, control of resources, continuation training and engineering administration policy and procedures in accordance with Training Objectives issued by LPP1.b. Health and Safety at Work and Environmental Protection. The person under training is to observe the statutory requirements of all Health and Safety at Work (HSW) and Environmental Protection (EP) legislation relevant to the course. All specific precautions and responsibilities are included in the Instructional Specification (IS) for the syllabus.
c. Student Assessment. Simulated exercises are implemented throughout the training course and are designed to check the performance of the student. Continuous assessments are used in place of a formal examination.
d. Attitudinal Goals. The emphasis of the course is on the development of the individuals qualities of supervision which they will be expected to display as a JNCO. Although the course provides training in the Skills and Knowledge at Corporal level it is designed to promote an awareness of, and favourable attitudes toward the general management responsibilities of a JNCO. The instructor is to impart to the student the following attitudinal goals throughout the duration of the course:
(1) The student should value their role as a trade supervisor and continually strive to carry out all their duties proficiently.(2) Constantly seek to broaden their personal horizons.
(3) Seek to instil the highest standards of professionalism in their work.
(4) Seek to improve current practices and standards by applying sound supervisory techniques and maintaining an awareness of trade trends and developments within the Service.
(5) Recognise that their trade has a major part to play in the efficient operation of a unit.
(6) Strive to achieve efficient and effective supervision in order to reduce resource costs.
3. Eligibility. The course is restricted to personnel who have successfully completed the Junior Management and Leadership Course (JMLC). The RAF Personnel Management Centre nominates personnel for the course.
4. Duration of the Course. The duration of the course is 2 weeks.
