AIRCRAFT ARRESTER BARRIER (ON STATION)

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Provides training in the operation and maintenance of aircraft arresting barriers for Trade Group 5 Gen Mech/Tech GSE and Gen Mech/Tech E personnel. An abridged version of the course provides training for Trade Group 8 firemen in the control of actions at the arrested aircraft and the shedding of arresting net and support cables. The courses are carried out on user units by selected SNCOs of Trade Group 5 Gen Tech GSE.
DURATION:
1 to 2 days. (Trade Group 8 firemen complete training objectives 1-7 only).
NOMINATION PROCEDURE
RAF personnel locally at unit level. Non-RAF personnel through Business Development Officer
ELIGIBILITY
a. Initial/Replacement Personnel. (Trade Group 5) All Gen Mech/Tech GSE and Gen Mech E/Tech E who are to be employed on aircraft arresting systems are to undergo structured OJT at their designated unit IAW the training syllabus and instructional specification.
b. Initial/Replacement Personnel. (Trade Group 8 firemen) All firemen who are to be employed on aircraft arresting systems are to undergo structured OJT at their designated unit IAW the training syllabus and instructional specification.
AIM
a. To train personnel of Trade Group 5 Gen Mech GSE, Gen Tech GSE, Gen Mech E and Gen Tech E who are responsible for all servicing on the Aircraft Arresting Barriers, to operate and maintain the installation in a competent and safe manner.
b. To train firemen of Trade Group 8 to control the actions required at the arrested aircraft to shed the aircraft arresting net and the net support cables in a competent and safe manner.
