The Diesel Max software package for the DS100E provides workshops with the unique offering of in-depth diesel diagnostics on Delphi equipped vehicles combined with comprehensive systems diagnostics across a massive range of the modern European vehicle parc.

There are now more than 5 million vehicles on European roads equipped with Delphi Common Rail diesel injection systems. If a garage or workshop is to offer service on these vehicles they need a diagnostic tool that is not only a fault code reader – it must also give the capability to write to the ECU.

The Delphi Diesel Sealed Rail Diagnostic Kit (YDT278) takes Common Rail diagnostics to another level by identifying the individual components of a Common Rail system that are failing.

Due to the design of the Common Rail system, the commonly used electronic diagnostic systems require additional support in order to accurately trace faulty components – the ECU diagnostic software can often go no further than failure mode identification, which does not always pinpoint the particular part of the system that has failed. The end result of this has been the unnecessary replacement of many complete Common Rail systems (pump, rail,and set of injectors) causing great expense, inconvenience and dissatisfaction to the end customer.

>> The Principles of Common Rail

In order to perform at a consistently high level, the Common Rail system must sustain the full and extremely high pressure from the pump, through the high pressure pipes and rail and into the injectors. If there is a drop in the system’s operating pressure then the vehicle will experience a progressive lack of power that may lead to a complete engine shutdown. It is therefore imperative that any loss of pressure id identified and resolved as quickly as possible.

The two major causes of pressure reduction within the system are a faulty pump (insufficient pressure is generated) or faulty injectors (excessive pressure lost to back-leak).

The Delphi Sealed Rail Diagnostic Kit is capable of diagnosing both of these faults:

>>The Sealed Rail Pressure Tester

The Sealed Rail Pressure Tester is a sensor devise that precisely measures the pressure generated by a Common Rail pump. It is fitted directly to the high-pressure outlet pipe and measures the pressure within the engine while during the cranking of the engine. The measurement can be read from a simple digital display. If the figure displayed varies from the specified pressure measurement (included in kit) for that application then the pump is at fault and should be replaced.

>> Injector Backleakage Equipment

The identification of faulty Common Rail injectors can be achieved by measuring the backleakage from each injector. The injector backleakage equipment within the kit permits the measurement to take place on-vehicle. The equipment collects the backleakage from each of the injectors in transparent, calibrated containers. These containers allow a quick and easy visual diagnosis of the test in order to identify a specific injector that is at fault.

Delphi is a world leader in the development and service of Common Rail diesel fuelling systems. In fact, Delphi has now taken Common Rail diagnostics even further with the launch of the False Actuator Kit (YDT410).

The False Actuator Kit is a unique piece of diagnostic equipment. The kit has been designed to work in conjunction with the Seal Rail Kit (YDT278) to further interrogate the pump when a reduction in the pressure being generated within the Common Rail system has been identified.

Once again Delphi has made certain that this tool is a great investment for the workshop by ensuring the False Actuator Kit is suitable for use on all makes of Common Rail systems including Delphi , Bosch, Denso and Siemens.

The Delphi Sealed Rail Kit identifies individual components of a Common Rail system that are failing. The False Actuator Kit will support with specific diagnostics of fuel pump failures. Both kits provide a low cost, all makes diagnostic solution for mechanical faults on light duty Common Rail vehicles.

>> Simple Fault Identification

When maximum pressure cannot be generated using the Sealed Rail Kit and the vehicle actuator, the false actuator is fitted in order to enable the pump to generate full system pressure. If the pump generates the correct pressure with the false actuator in place then the vehicle actuator is deemed to be at fault and should be replaced. If the pressure is still below the required level when tested with the false actuator then there is a mechanical failure within the pump.

Delphi will supply a series of all makes test data for each actuator in order that the user can be fully confident in the diagnostic results.

The False Actuator Kit must only be used when the Sealed Rail is fitted to the vehicle. The use of the actuator without the Sealed Rail leads to extremely high pressure being generated by an uncontrolled system and poses a severe safety risk.
