Hello; welcome to Dawlish-Rotary.org |
ProjectsMillennium Play Park
The Rotary clubs of Dawlish and Dawlish Water joined forces with the Dawlish Round Table early in 1998 to provide a lasting memorial to the millennium year for the town of Dawlish. Various ideas were considered, and finally decided to provide an improved play park facility in the Manor grounds close to Dawlish Town centre. The Play unit was to have access for disabled as well as able-bodied children from the ages of two to 10 years. The combined unit would have many play facilities accessed from a wheelchair or by small children. All clubs concerned were arranging quizzes, boot sales, cabaret evenings, Street collections, firework displays ete etc., Collections by the project chairman Rotarian Peter Ridler resulted in almost £2,000 of donations by many local businesses. The total raised by all concerned up to the spring of 2000 was an impressive £30,000. The Lions club of Teignniouth and Dawlish provided a Friendship Globe as a further educational item by donating an extra £500. This enabled the order to be placed for the equipment, with the Grand opening by the mayor of Dawlish councillor Valerie Jeffries in June 2000.

During the first part of 2001 a further £10,000 was secured from ENTRUST part of environment land reclamation scheme. This money will enable a further set play equipment to be placed in the park area and will provide a fitting climax to the project. Thanks to Past President of the Dawlish Club Walter Protheroe for his efforts and hard work in finalising this grant. |
