Bounty 1 started the winter season in scrappy form, going down 3-2 to Windsor last night.

Justin (5) started the evening with a ragged performance against a fit young left hander. The first 2 games were relatively close, unfortunately going to Windsor, but Justin seemed to lose the will to fight in the third, losing it 9-0, and the match 3-0.

Captain Coggi (2) was next up. Some decent close squash in the first and second resulted in a 1-1 scoreline. Halfway through the third Coggi developed a life threatening stitch which refused to go away, and had to ease down, resulting in the next two games going to Windsor.

Paul (1) dealt the Windsor player a comprehensive thrashing, taking the first two games 9-1, 9-1. He eased off in the third, cruising home to win 9-7

Andy (4) never left the starting blocks, looking completely uncomfortable throughout his 4-9, 6-9, 3-9 defeat.

Phil (3) was in usual form, chasing everything down. Taking the first 9-2, he eased off too much and let the second slip away 3-9. Re-focused, he got stuck in again and took the next two games 9-3, 9-2.

Final score Bounty 7 - Windsor 15 (2-3)

Captain Cog

Unfortunately the Second's started the session in the same vein as Bounty's
other teams, with the team never really getting out of the starting blocks
away at Hart I

First up, Pete ("the youngster") Jones at No.5 got off to a flyer and should
have taken he first but didn’t! From then on with a fit opponent running
everything down Pete succumbed 3-0 (8-10, 5-9, 4-9)

Howard ("the court caught me out, the ball bounced off the back wall")
Lancashire was next up at No.3. The Team crowded on to the balcony
anticipating Howard's maiden victory in Bounty colours, however, it was not
to be and he also went down 3-0 (4-9, 6-9, 6-9)

Next up, Andy ("the tin's too high") Poole at No.4, for once looked liked
he'd played the game before in the warm up and got off to a fine start
losing the 1st to a tall & quick opponent. Stepping up a gear in game 2, he
made fewer errors and won but then faded badly, losing 3-1 (5-9, 9-6, 1-9,
3-9)

Jose ("mines a Guinness & coke") Carnero at No.2, had obviously given his
share of the Carnero energy to Paul before leaving home, as he competed well
in the first but faded to a stronger, fitter and younger opponent 3-0 (6-9,
1-9, 3-9)

Duncan ("drop shot") Davidson was last up and in a competitive match that
ebbed and flowed just could not get the better of a fit opponent going down
fighting 3-0 (4-9, 9-10, 3-9)

Final score 20-1, one to forget as we focus on the next match – Civil
Service - at home on the 6th October

The Berkshire winter season got off the ground with Bounty playing 3 teams in the leagues.
I'm sure the other team captains are at the moment putting together their match reports, but following is the report on the 3rd team.

Up first in his virgin appearance for Bounty was Bill Scott (4th String). He started off strongly in the first going 7-5 up, but lost the game 7-9. From there it all went downhill. Bill got stage fright and unfortunately didn't get a point in the second losing 0-9. The last game was a battle to get off 0-0 with 13 hand outs, but then his opponent romped home with 9 straight points to win 0-9 and the match 0-3

Chris Allen played 5th string and started off very well going up 7-0 in the first. Again, he seemed to slip from his ways going down 7-9 in the first. Chris battle through the 2nd and 3td, but ended up losing 0-3 also.

Simon Walker next at 2nd string was playing with an injured shoulder and couldn't do anything on his backhand which his opponent (an ex county player) took thorough advantage of. Simon put up a strong fight on the forehand, but just wasn't able to retrieve anything on the left, going down 4-9, 9-5, 2-9, 3-9.

Neil (MVP) Wright played 3rd string against an opponent who almost cried off the game before it started claiming ill health. Neil comfortable won the first two 9-1, 9-3, and then the downfall resumed, with his ill opponent pulling out very tight line & length play to pull back to 2-2.

Neil (without stating who wanted the game as normal) got his head up and rallied to win the fifth in style 9-2 and pull out the first win.

Gavin Jackson played 1st string against an opponent who only showed up at 9.20. Not used to playing this late (well after bedtime) is a very good excuse for losing a tight match, but can't really be used here. It was late and there was the threat of the bar closing before end of play, so Gavin went down quickly losing 4-9, 9-5, 5-9 3-9
