Embers
Sparkling conversation,
tinkling laughter,
comfortable silences,
now a deafening quiet.
Eyes, once ablaze with passion,
fuelled by desire,
became cold with hatred.
Lips meeting, tongues mating.
Today a peck on the cheek,
cursory and polite.
Fingers no longer leave burning trails,
setting skin on fire.
Icicle-like, they freeze the blood.
Bodies came together
fervently igniting sparks,
tonight, fully clothed, back to back,
the glacier between insurmountable.
At what point did our love die?
