Different resins available from hard plastic to soft Polyurethane . This one has one softer nest to accommodate and protect  the delicate purple end.

The resin may be bonded around a variety of materials. In this case a stainless steel  location pin for accurate orientation and location.

The Moulding or nest may be machined, drilled or tapped, clamped or punched against.
