Wednesday Night Laser Series 17/08/2006

N o racing last week due to most of the usual suspects being on holiday, so it was just Isla and myself with David in the rescue boat.  There was a strong but gusty westerly wind blowing so we managed to amuse ourselves with David leading the way to create a wake  for us to surf on - well some of the time at least.

This week there was three of us sailing (Peter, Alex, and myself) plus Alistair Spence as OOD, so it was worth racing, although there was not much wind which clearly suited lighter weight sailors..

The first race was a standard two laps on a triangular course.  Alex sailed on of his best races of the season to win by a decent margin, from Peter and then me.  The second race was probably the longest race we have had all year with Alistair deciding that we were to do 4 laps, alternating triangle and sausage.  The wind decided to blow for a couple of minutes and I managed to take an early lead, helped by Peter being nowhere near the line at the start.  However predictably the wind died off and I was caught on the third lap by Peter, but at least I managed to stay ahead of Alex.

The last race of the evening and the one that counts for the series, was the shortest race, mainly because what wind there was had pretty much decided to knock off for the evening.   A 1.5 lap race finishing at the windward mark, predictably won by Peter, but who was pushed most of the way by Alex who claimed second.

Hopefully we will have a few more turn out next week, and more wind too would be nice...

I think Peter and myself have elected to sail Lasers in the forthcoming round Shuna race (unless it either not windy at all or extremely windy).  So if anyone else is up for it please let us know, though I realise the prospect of missing out on the usual mid race gin and tonic might put some folk off...
