Wednesday Night Laser Series 25/08/2006

A good turnout this week with 6 boat on the water.  However despite a promising wind to begin with, as seems to be standard for the last few weeks this tailed off to not much at all half way through the first race.  We gave up after the second race (won by Peter McCardel, with Isla in second) and amused ourselves for the rest of the evening sailing about standing on the bows.  A mention in despatches is due to Lorenzo who was sailing a fully rigged Laser, which despite the light winds you might expect to have been a bit of a handful for someone about 8 stones under the optimum weight.  This proved not to be the case however with Lorenzo just missing out for a third place in the second race.

Ardfern - Croabh Haven Feeder Race/ Round Shuna Race
Looks like we have the green light for a dinghy contingent in both of the forthcoming races this weekend.  Ali is arranging to provide some safety cover for us.  The weather forecast is not great, but is now looking that there might at least be some wind on both days.

So far 3 of us from Craignish are planning to sail Lasers in both events, myself, Peter McCardel and Alex Spence.  If anyone else is tempted please let myself or Ali McLeod know preferably today.  Tayvallich are also will be sailing a bunch of assorted dinghies from Ardfern - so we will have some company.

At the moment the plan is as follows:

Feeder Race, Saturday 26 August  - Dinghy's start in class 1 with the Flying Fifteens.  Start time is 1210.

Round Shuna Race., Sunday 27 August

I have calculated CYCA handicaps for a selection of dinghies as there were none in existence.  These have been submitted to the organisers, who haven't got back to me yet.   However, as they were calculated in a totally scientific way I do not expect any objections, so unless you hear to the contrary please assume that these are OK.

Expected CYCA handicaps for a selection of dinghies are as follows:

Dart 15 - 15.00
Kestrel - 19.75
Laser - 21.50
Laser Stratos - 21.50
Laser Radial - 22.25
Laser 16 - 24.50
Pico - 28.50

This means that start times for ourselves will be

Laser Radial -  11:22
Laser           -  11:23
Flying 15      -  11:27

I have attached details of courses, signals and start times for info.  I should be down at the club from around 1030 tomorrow, so we have time to get the boat in the water and sort out the logistics of getting trailers and trolleys around to Croabh Haven.

If any one needs to speak to me before then you can give me a call on 07771 810263.
