January Sail 02/01/2007

January Sail 2007A short break in the miserable weather saw an excellent turn out for CBC's inaugural 'January Sail' on the second, with 10 boats on the water - 2 Picos, one Topper and 7 lasers.

Apart from a couple of 'fun' races, the main event involved a 3 race series (two to count) which allowed Guy, Ali and Myself to take turns as race officer. Conditions were unfortunately very light, particularly for the first two races, meaning that some sailing ability plus an attention span significantly better than that of a goldfish was required.

We should all have been concerned when Lorenzo turned up with his own boat, but the speed difference between the Lasers and the other boats meant that it wasn't until the results were calculated that we found out how comprehensively we had all been stuffed. Prizes as follows:

Prize giving on the shoreFirst - Lorenzo Chiavarini
Second - Guy Neville
Third - Ali MacLeod
Ladies Prize - Isla Graham (we had a spare box of Chocolates)
Booby - Darren Taylor

A big thanks to all that turned out for what was an excellent afternoons entertainment and to Anne Wilson for the loan of her rib which acted as rescue boat. Also to David and Carol Graham for providing bacon rolls on the beach afterwards - much appreciated.

January Sail 2007Race results are on the new CBC website, which Laura Neville is currently working on. It is early days but it is beginning to look pretty good already. We are looking for good quality digital photographs of recent sailing activity for the website so if anyone has any they would like to share please let Laura know. Thanks to Andrea Chiavarini for the pictures shown in this report.
