First Wednesday Evening Of The Season

The first Wednesday evening of the season saw a good turnout and an even better wind.  This is the first time we have run mixed Flying Fifteen/Laser racing and it seemed to work pretty well with some very close racing.  All three Fifteens currently in the water were out, including Guy and Laura's 'Fish Finger' back in the water for the first time in a few years.

The first two practice races were won by Guy and Laura, and David Graham (in a Laser Radial) respectively.   Though for a normally mild mannered sort of bloke, David pulled off one of the most outrageously aggressive luffing maneuvers on Sally and Ali to take the win that I have seen in a long time, maybe I should have mentioned it was only a practice race.

This years Wednesday night series will have prizes for both keelboats and Dinghies as well as an overall club championship and the windy conditions meant that we were able to run a decent 4 lap race as the main event of the evening.  As had been the case in the other races, the start was won by Lorenzo in a Pico.  As usual he quietly went about his own race, but despite having the slowest boat he managed to stay in touch with the field for 3 laps.  Overall Guy and Laura took an early lead, but were pushed hard by Ali and Sally, until unable to tell a triangle from a sausage they took a wrong turning and its was effectively game over from then on.   In fact victory was so easy Laura had time to take some photos at the same time.

Overall victory on handicap goes to Guy and Laura, though I have generously used the 'Classic' Flying Fifteen PY.  In second place, and first dinghy was Lorenzo, who despite being last over the line finished only a few seconds behind on corrected time.  He is going to be tough to beat this year....
