Match Racing vs Tayvallich Despite an unpromising start - no wind and no CBC members, yesterday's match racing against Tayvallich proved to be an unlikely success. At 10 to 2 it looked pretty hopeless and we were considering cancelling, but as soon as we thought about it the wind came, and so did 3 car loads of Tayvallich folk. The next problem was to rekindle some enthusiasm amongst our members, Ali acted as Chief whip and pretty soon Sally, Carol, David, Ranny and Sandy had turned up, we also claimed one Tayvallich member who had dual Craignish nationality. One crew short of ideal, but good enough for a start. Once out on the water, despite some skepticism things worked out pretty well considering how complicated a series of match races can be to organise. The only fly in the ointment was my normally reliable watch, let me down just prior to the start of Ali's first two races. This obviously buggered up his carefully planned pre start strategy. However, he was clearly so p***ed off he sailed like a man possessed to take both races.. Unfortunately the wind disappeared again with only 3 races to complete, but by that time CBC had won enough races to declare victory 7 points to 4. David and Carol remaining undefeated in 3 races, Ranny and Sally on two and Ali and Karen on two. Ultimately a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Big thanks to Tayvallich for their enthusiasm and good company. Also to the above mentioned hard core CBC members for keeping the Craignish end up... The return match is planned for Sunday 22 July, so put it in your diaries before I forget again.. Nick 11/06/07 |
