CBC 'January' Sail 2008 (30/12/07) Despite the cold weather and a serious lack of wind we had an excellent turnout with 10 boats on the water, and the breeze picked up enough to allow us to run 3 handicap races, with the Lasers and Picos completing 2 laps and the 3 Oppis doing 1. Race 1 was a bit of a shambles with all but 2 boats over the line at the start. However there wasn't enough wind for a recall and the time limit for protests has expired - so the result stands. Ali Mac lead early in the race, but after a penalty turn for allegedly hitting a mark completely lost the plot and didn't feature much for the rest of the afternoon. David Graham eventually took the win, with Isla in second place. The wind picked up for race 2 and we got through it in less then half the time it took to complete the first. However it didn't affect the result at all with David winning and Isla in second place again. Ali obviously had had enough of his Laser by the third race and swapped it with Guy's Oppi. Another good start ended in mediocrity after he was caught by Carol and subsequently interfered with at the second mark. The resulting 28 second gap between him and Carol at the finish was the difference between 2nd and 6th once all the handicaps had been worked out. The resulting protest was rejected by the race committee due to a lack of credible witnesses. And just in case David was thinking that he was getting pretty good, Guy won the race in about 2/3 of the time it took the next best boat... All in all a fun afternoon. Thankfully Tony Tucker turned up late and prevented the Graham family from taking a clean sweep of all the prizes, by taking the wooden spoon from Tom and David's Brother Joe. - A box of raisins and a Satsuma is on it's way Tony..
