Opening Regatta 2008 (04/05/08)

Opening Regatta As was the case last year, the weather was not particularly kind to us on the first day of the season.  This year it chucked it down with rain, but at least it wasn't too windy, but ultimately the hardcore folk that turned up had to settle for a bunch of races around the lagoon.   Actually it was pretty good fun once you got going, and for some reason I didn't even mind my boat getting rained on.  We ran a series of about 5 races and there was some good close races between Guy and myself and also between the Lasers

Unfortunately, the race results for the first few races didn't survive the rain, though thanks to Guy's photographic memory and some vague inscriptions from inside the starting bell we do have some results, though they are probably not reliable enough to award a prize ... [click here for results]

Wednesday Night Series (07/05/08)

In contrast, last Wednesday night was almost as good as it gets weather wise - or at least it was after the wind turned up.  The warm 25 degree breeze tempted us out into the main loch  for 2 marathon length races.   Anyway, Jilly and myself had by now become a well oiled machine, and without Guy to contend with (he was conducting a sailing lesson in the wayfarer) we managed to pull off another couple of victories, though we came close to blowing it all by putting the spinnaker up on the last leg.  It is a good lesson though, never try to explain to someone how one works in the middle of a race when you only have a vague idea yourself - particularly with the rocks only 50m downwind of the finish line...

Good to see a few more boats in the water this week, though mine is going back on it's velvet cushion after this weekend - so  it is back to the Laser and all that rubber ... [May Wednesday Night Series results here]
