Match Racing vs. Tayvallich (08/06/08) Apologies for the delay in getting the results out but holidays intervened. Anyway we had a very pleasant afternoon in the lagoon with Tayvallich on Sunday 8th. Despite the forecast, the weather was perfect with bright sunshine and a consistent but shifty breeze. We ran 15 races which allowed everyone to race everyone else. We had some extremely tight races and the shifty conditions meant that large deficits could often be made up. In one race Ranny managed to pull out a considerable lead despite being behind by 45 seconds at the start only to be caught again by the finish. Unfortunately for Tayvallich, that was the only race that CBC lost all afternoon. Overall was one-time Scottish match racing champion Guy Neville, though it was very close on a few occasions. A very near second was last year's top helm, David Graham. In the team competition Craignish won 22 points to 8. A big thanks to all that turned out, and particularly to Tayvallich for making it such an excellent afternoon. [Race results here in PDF format] Wednesday Night June Series Attached are the results for the June series [June Wednesday Night Series results here], though I have to confess I mislaid the results for 11 June just prior to going on holiday. If they turn up I will let you know. However they are unlikely to change the overall results much. For those hardy folk that turned up, last Wednesday proved to be a pretty full on experience. We had a south westerly force 6, so we decided the safest option was to take out the 3 flying fifteens that we were able to reef. Iain C, Fiona and Clive in Ffaolcuian, David, Alex and Hamish in Amffibian and myself and Guy in Fish Finger. Alasdair ran 2 races which is about all the punishment boats could stand. David won both races though it was relatively close in both cases. Despite having a hole in our jib and various other important bits missing, after the races had finished we went for a blast in the main loch. Clive's boat was clocked on Fiona's GPS at 12 knots despite having very little sail up. Judging by the speed Guy and myself went past them on the final run I think we must have easily been doing about 30. Shame nobody brought a camera... Nick 28/06/08 |
