I'm Carol Smith. Welcome to my website. From early childhood I wanted to write and was lucky in having a mother who taught English and encouraged me to read widely. After leaving school, I worked in the book trade where most of my creative energy went into other people's careers. From this I learned how essential it is for any writer to first establish their true 'voice'. I wrote my first novel on Sundays only and it took me nine months to complete. It was published in 1995 since when I have produced one every year. I describe what I write as 'Hitchcock-on-the-page' - psychological thrillers that are not quite crime. I like to explore the everyday worlds of ordinary people living mundane lives until something goes drastically wrong. Take a look at the following extracts. I hope youíll find something that appeals to you. And do, please, let me know what you think. Writing is a solitary occupation and feedback from readers essential. |
