Geriatric Clinic This clinic is run by Gemma Ward V.N. It is intended to be a 'well pet' clinic for our elderly patients. The purpose is to catch certain old age problems earlier than we would do if we waited for obvious signs of disease. Generally, the earlier a problem is diagnosed and treated the better the prognosis will be. Common age related problems in dogs are arthritis, heart disease and dental disease. Cats tend to suffer from hyperthyroidism, renal failure and dental disease as they age. Ideally when attending this clinic you will bring a fresh sample of your pets urine with you which we will check free of charge. During the consultation Gemma will perform a clinical examination of your pet, take a history and may want to perform a blood pressure measurement. Depending on the urinalysis and what is found during the examination of your pet Gemma may, for example, want to take blood for testing or may advise referring you to a vet for assessment for further work if required or hopefully say everything seems fine and keep up the good work! |
