One hell of a ride this was!! I
was staying in a hostel on the shores of Loch Lomond and
spend a whole day cycling around a complete loop the
Loch. It wasn't until I'd gotten most of the way around
until I was told that I would have to carry the bike over
some rough terrain. Being a bold and hardy moutain biker,
I didn't take much stock into this information &
bounded on up the side of the hill on a dirt track -
until I came to it - terrain that could barely be walked
across, let alone carry a bike over. Riding over this
part was only a few miles long, but the going was so
trecherous I was really so close to just throwing the
bike down the side of the steeep ravine and walking all
the way back!! Totally unbelievable - you had to have
been there to believe it, but I was seriously doing my
nut! Anyway - Finally got to the end of the walk to a
hotel where I booked a local ferry crossing to the other
side of the Loch, and then proceeded for about another
hour or so to ride like a bat out of hell back to the
hostel, tired, worn out and totally frustrated... though
it felt like quite an acheivement to have ridden so far
& gone through so much. This picture is taken on the jetty near
to the hotel before crossing to the other side of the
Loch
