Taken while on a family holiday
last year, a week on the south coast at Weymouth. Took
the bike down with me since I just wanted to get out on
the bike and do my own thing from time to time. Taken in front of the lighthouse at
Portland Bill, great weather - not too hot & not too
cold. Rode from Overcombe all the way to the point here
in Portland. Quite a trek, and a really tough hill for
someone like me to climb on the way up there - I like the
flat bits best! ;o) Made it up there in one go without
stopping, which is always good. Excellent views all
around.

Dad in the middle and brother Andy on the right. |

A map of the area for those
that don't know where Weymouth is. Also denotes another
place I took a mammoth cycle ride - to Swanage on the far
right of the picture. Riding east through Osmington and
up the huge hill past the horse on the hill carved into
the chalk hills, past Overmoigne, Stokeford and turning
at Wareham heading down the A351 to Swanage. Going there
was the easy part, I knew I had to go all that same way
back again. By the time I had gotten there I was already
'knackered' - so I took the opportunity of taking a ride
on a steam train out of the seaside town, back 6 miles to
Corfe Castle - from there on, it was done all the way
back again under my own pedal power. Again - another
hellish ride, totalling 60 miles!! |

View taken from the top of a
very long & steep climb up from the town seen below.
A long slow climb that really tests you right from the
begining when it starts with what feels like a 45 degree
climb! Riding back down is quite a rush, reaching speeds
of at least 25 or 30mph so long as there aren't any cars
in your way! An impressive view across Chesil beach and
to Weymouth in the distance on the right. |
