PANTOMIME POEM by John Sidebotham

The Panto at Aberdovey - takes place each year,
Lots come to see it - from afar and quite near,
In the past it's been full - and people couldn't get in,
So this year we did 5 shows - their custom to win.

This years was new - not done before,
What do we expect - not knowing the score,
But we soon settled down - and swallowed their spin,
As we began to rehearse - the great Dick Terrapin.

Who would be in it - and get the main shot,
The auditions took place - competition quite hot,
The chorus of course - you can see for a fact,
Decisions quite easy - don't dance, sing or act.

With Rob as Dick Turpin - suave and debonair,
Gets the girl in the end - it just isn't fair,
As he gets older each year - to remain leading man,
We'll do one for SAGA - then maybe he can.

Dame Dollop of course - was Helen from Spar,
Her acting superb - she projects her voice far,
Her dance was so sexy - some trembled with fear,
Almost as good as - the mens strip of last year.

And Jan who was new - played Caroline so sweet,
To see her perform - it was a real treat,
She sailed through her part - just a matter of course,
But did you see what she did - to the back of the horse.

Geraint left the chorus - to get a main role,
He put himself into it - with his heart and his soul,
He's adopted an air - a most aloof stature,
There's many that think - he suffers delusions of grandeur.

Des as usual - was the villain of the plot,
But besides his acting - he does such a lot,
He's loud and he's bold - and he's certainly not mellow,
No wonder he was cast as - the Parson Goodfellow.

And Meurig as Billie - he's kept us amused,
But he's sometimes talked rubbish - being totally confused,
He's tried to keep calm - when all round have gone manic,
But then rushed round in circles - shouting "Don't panic don't panic".

There's Sarah from Nat West - she works in the Bank,
She played Katie Cuddlesome - so open and frank,
But the thing that we've noticed - it's really the hoots,
Have you noticed the flowers - on her green welly boots.

Smash Grab and Pinchit - 3 baddies I feel,
On the look out perpetually - for something to steal,
But they always looked shady - maybe quite weird,
Well you would wouldn't you - with a false painted beard.

Nick Nab and Come Here - a force for the good,
They searched high and low - as good coppers should,
But their search was quite narrow - they couldn't go very far,
Well how could they possibly - in such an unusual police car.

The Chorus of course - were the stars of the show,
That's what we thought - but what do we know,
The reason we appeared - in the court and the greenery,
Was not that we're good - but we're cheaper than scenery.

The prompters were brilliant - always there to help out,
They whispered the lines - they did not have to shout,
However there was once - when they sadly did lack,
Lynne held up a board - showing only the back.

Our front of house team - are a credit to us all,
They usher the people - from the street to the hall,
They sell lots of programmes - and raffle ticket galore,
But it's their bright green dickies - that we've noticed more.

Of Paul and his kitchen staff - what can I say,
They've provided refreshments - and drinks every day,
I choose my words carefully - I have to be picky,
For to say the wrong thing - means no chocolate bicky.

I'm sorry not to mention - everyone around,
The Orchestra the Lighting - and Mr Mole on sound,
The Stage Hands the Management - and the Judge ruled supreme,
The Make Up the Dressers - we all worked as a team.

Now finally - and this certainly is true,
I have really enjoyed - being in this Panto with you,
We've had lots of fun - and some shed a tear,
And I suppose we'll be back - for another next year.
