NEUROPATHIC PAIN
Clinical
Chronic pain states are a common complaint
seen in neurological practise. There are an estimated 85
million patients in the US alone with suffering with chronic
pain, with nearly 200 million cases of acute pain per year.
These prescriptions account for a $22 billion drug bill,
even though the majority of drugs used are old, often with
a poor side effect profile. The only drugs currently approved
by the FDA are carbamazepine for the treatment of trigeminal
and glossopharyngeal neuralgias, and gabapentin and lidocaine
for the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia.

DanioLabs approach
DanioLabs is particularly focusing on the factors
which enhance the perception of painful stimuli and modulate
the perception of otherwise normal stimuli, developing
therapies to relieve the chronic pain state.
