1. Homeless in Oxford - your first stop is Oxford City Council's St Aldates Service Shop opposite the Town Hall (Telephone 01865 252859). There are different options - depending on whether children are involved, or you are otherwise vulnerable, etc. It's worth going there to check out all the options even if they cannot offer immediate help - they should know about your problem and should be able point you somewhere.

Hostels & Housing

Oxford Night Shelter
O'Hanlon House, Luther St. (over 25s)

 

Put your name down between
4 & 6pm for that night.
£3 per night.

The charity provide direct access and resettlement accommodation also supported half-way housing for 66 ex-homeless people in 12 houses across Oxford through Julian Housing.

The Bridge

Offers 16-25s - Emergency night shelter, provides food, support and advice

Elmore Team
Elmore Team provide an outreach service that helps homeless and vulnerable people to manage their lives and connect them with agencies such as welfare, housing, solicitors etc. They work with 100-120 clients at any one time.

Accommodation and support

Aspire Oxfordshire
Aspire employs and trains homeless people and ex-homeless people. The landscaping and gardening project includes private work and maintenance contracts with local housing associations.

English Churches Housing
Lucy Faithful House is a 67-bed hostel which provides accommodation and support for homeless men and women aged 18-65. The hostel also runs Alcohol and Drug Recovery Programmes.

Learning Zone: Offers on-line learning and training in IT skills at Lucy Faithful House - it forms the hub of a virtual Oxford Homeless College, which will offer on-line learning through nine partner agencies from the Homeless Network across Oxford.

Simon House Hostel
Simon House is a 52-bed hostel in the city centre that is currently undergoing major refurbishment.

Has a purpose-built workshop provides the opportunity to learn skills associated with the construction industry (with a view to doing a NVQ or an apprenticeship), and also basic skills (e.g. changing a tap/light bulb) that will be useful for independent living.

Open Open access surgeries: mornings, 9.30 am-12.00 noon, booked afternoon appointments: 2.00-5.00 pm
Offers Full range of GP services, drugs assessment, practical help and advice to homeless, travelling and vulnerably-housed people


Day centres & resources

The Porch
(Steppin Stone Centre)

Based in Magdalen Rd, (off Cowley rd)

Open everyday 11am - 2pm and 5-8pm except wednesday.

The centre provides low-cost meals and laundry facilities, IT facilities, some complementary therapies, cooking classes and an allotment project which supplies the kitchen. The whole ethos is a shift away from dependency towards independent living and social inclusion.

The Gap
(managed by The Bridge)

23 Park End St

Open 9am - 3pm


The Gap Project is a day service mainly for 16-25 year olds who are homeless, vulnerable or in need of support. The Gap offers a cooked breakfast and lunch, shower and laundry facilities.


Activity Programme: Includes IT skills and careers information, creative arts activities and sports and recreation e.g. fitness, dance, fishing and gardening.

Gatehouse
The Gatehouse, Northgate Hall,

St Michaels St in the City Centre.

Open 5-7pm weekdays,
3-5pm Sundays. It's cafe for homeless people aged over 25. Food is often donated, and most of the people serving in the cafe are volunteers.

Project: Computers with internet access - tutor available on every thursday
