Diet

We feed all our dogs - puppies included - on a raw diet.

It makes sense to us! In the time we have feed raw, the dogs have not had a day's sickness, they are full of energy and they absolutely love it!

They eat about 65%-85% raw meaty bones - in our case chicken carcasses and lamb ribs from local wholesale butchers - and the rest is made up of half vegetables (all sorts, crushed in an electric macerator) and half other foods such as muscle meat from various animals, fish (white and oily), eggs (including shells), yogurt, organ meat, cheese, goats' milk, brown rice, oats, nuts, beans etc. We tend to give them their bones in the morning, and the evening meal is made up of the vegetable mix with one or two of the other ingredients added giving the full variety over a period of around a fortnight. Quantities vary, depending on the condition, age and activity level of the dog.

Our litters are weaned directly onto the BARF diet. Once mum's milk just wasn't quite enough, we started to supplement with ground chicken wings, then the rest of the diet was added bit by bit. By the time the puppies were ready to move to their new homes they were all eating the full BARF diet, including whole chicken wings. Many of the puppies continued the same diet in their new homes and those that changed to another diet all made the transition without any problems.
