Once
again we have had a very busy year. We have a large group of around 40
enthusiastic girls and Wednesday evenings are a lot of fun.
Our outings have included bowling, swimming, a campfire night at Bonaly
and a visit to the Gang Show at the King’s Theatre, which we particularly
enjoyed as two of our Guides were in the cast.
Fifteen of the older Guides and three leaders had a very wet weekend at
Coldingham Youth Hostel in May where we did the lovely walk around St
Abbs Head Nature Reserve and a smaller group camped with other Guides
from Braid Division at Trefoil later that month.
We responded to the appeal from Scottish Love in Action in October and
collected a wide variety of trinkets, toys and stationery for the children
in Tuni. Gillie Davidson came to tell us all about her trip in January
and we later held a bring and buy sale in aid of the orphanage.
The highlight of the year, however, has to be our entry in the “Race
for Life” in Holyrood Park. The idea to enter the 5km race came
from the girls and we eventually had a team of 33, including Guides, leaders,
mums and friends. Our team raised over £1,500 in sponsorship for
Cancer Research and we all had a great sense of achievement having completed
the course.
We meet on Wednesday evenings from 6.45 until 8.30pm. At the moment our
unit is full and we have difficulty in accommodating all the girls who
wish to join. We have had wonderful assistance from a group of mums over
the past year but are always looking for more help – please get
in touch.
