Greenbank Parish Church — Parish Profile |
Greenbank Parish Church Edinburgh |
| Contents
Summary Greenbank is a thriving congregation in a pleasant suburb of Edinburgh with over 900 members. We are financially stable and have many organisations and groups attached to the church. We have had two long ministries with progressive and dynamic leadership and now look forward to the next stage of our developmentg with our new Minister - the Rev Alison Swindells.. The congregation has always had a broadly inclusive theological ethos. It believes in the importance of the Minister preaching / teaching each Sunday and that all the activities that happen throughout the week are a reflection of the faith expressed during worship. This ethos is central to its existence. We believe that Greenbank Church must aim to be a community:
There is a strong emphasis on work with children and young people who are encouraged to see the church as a familiar place that is for them just as much as for adults. Pastoral care is always important and in addition to the traditional system of Elders’ districts we have explored additional ways of caring for our people over the years. As demonstrated in our “Mission Statement” highlighted above, we want ourselves to be seen as a place that can be a focus for the local community and we have recently invested heavily in our Halls to let us maximise our community involvement. In addition to providing a meeting place for local groups, however, we have a strong background of supporting work further afield and during 2005 the congregation donated over £37,500 to Christian Aid and other charitable appeals. The information contained in the following pages describes what happens at Greenbank now. It should not be taken to mean that all of these things must continue unchanged into the future. |
