Music in Greenbank

Greenbank Parish Church, Edinburgh
Greenbank Parish Church

Greenbank has a long tradition of good choral and congregational singing, a dedicated Choir performing anthems on a weekly basis during the ‘organisational’ year. Having recently purchased CH4, new tunes are being learned on almost a weekly basis. The challenge we face is to recruit new and younger voices to maintain the long-standing tradition of choral singing.

For many years there has been a Junior Choir covering the P4–P7 age group, which met on a regular weekly basis. It was recently decided to introduce greater flexibility and variety to the work with the young people and they now are involved musically in specific Services (eg Christmas, Easter). So far this has worked well. S1–S3 and S4–S6 age groups also have been keen to participate providing percussion and instrumental accompaniments.

There is a wealth of musical talent – both young and old – some very accomplished players and certainly, amongst the young, no end of enthusiasm
