About St Ives
|
|
The picturesque harbour town of St. Ives with it’s own lovely beaches cobbled streets and art galleries is just five minutes away by car, bus or train being only one a half miles distant. The local branch line station is just a few minutes from the door and the ride is just 3 minutes to the centre of town. St Ives can also be reached by a coastal path for a memorable walk with stunning views. The cobbled streets hold a wealth of shops and restaurants. A great place to sit with a glass of wine, cup of coffee or a traditional Cornish cream tea and watch the world go by.

If you are feeling a little more energetic, you may like to take a pleasure cruise around the bay. Go wreck or mackerel fishing or take a trip out to seal island to say hello to our local seal colony. (You may be one of the lucky ones and run into a pod of dolphins). For surf lovers Porthmeor Beach is a must. This is also the best place to watch the sun dipping into the sea.
Night-life is usually centred around the pretty harbour and many of the restaurants have fine sea views. There is much to choose from including contemporary Indian cuisine, Mexican Fajitas, Pub Grub, Seafood or a traditional Cornish Pasty. We have tried a few and are happy to recommend those we have tried. We are planning some extensive research on behalf of our guests for those we have yet to sample. We’ll let you know how we get on!
There are also a couple of golf courses locally for those who’d like to stay in practice whilst on holiday. Treggenna Castle is the nearest being a fourteen hole course and fees are currently £15.00 per round. Non members welcome.
Carbis Bay is ideally situated for touring Cornwall. We are within easy reach of St Michaels Mount, Lands End, Mousehole, The Minnack Theatre, Lizard Point and The Eden Project (to name but a few). For the younger family members, locally is Paradise Park, Flambards, Crealey Adventure Playground and also Newquay Zoo.
For the ornithologists among you, bring along your binoculars. Hayle Estuary nature reserve has an abundance of wild-fowl. We often catch a glimpse of one or two twitchers on our travels.
