Hydroplan is a leading renewable energy consultancy based in the South of England and the Highlands of Scotland. We specialise in small to medium hydropower schemes, as well as other water related projects.

Project Engineer (based in Fort William, Scotland)

Reporting to:

Job Description:

Director within a team of 5

An interesting role undertaking the project engineering of several hydro schemes mainly through the final stages of construction and commissioning.  Duties to include:

  • Working with the designers and other project engineers to understand the details of the project and ensure good quality and productivity
  • Liaise with main contractors and suppliers to confirm detailed design and interfaces
  • Produce and maintain programmes so that tasks are completed in good time.
  • Supervision of commissioning of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Supervision of pipe testing and inspection
  • Position is mostly site-based but with regular periods in the office
  • Suggest improvements to the design or process as appropriate.

Qualifications/

Experience:

Relevant experience is more important than qualifications.  However, you are likely to:-

 - have a technical qualification (Degree/HND/HNC) in Mechanical

   Engineering.

 - have a good knowledge of interfaces with electrical, control and

   civil aspects of a project.

 - have a number of years experience in bespoke plant engineering

   and some commissioning experience.

 - be a good communicator - both verbally and written

 - be confident enough to make decisions but know when to ask for

   assistance from members of your team.

Surveyors/Hydrometrists (based in Fort William, Scotland)

We are also looking for the following people to join our surveying team in Scotland.

   

  • Assistant Surveyor/Hydrometrist - Qualified (HNC/HND/Degree) with some relevant experience.
  • Trainee/Junior Surveyor - Some practical and scientific background and the ability to learn.

Both positions would suit individuals who:-

 - Enjoy the outdoors

 - Are proficient with computers

 - Have a good working knowledge of using a GPS

 - A Full clean UK driving licence is required

   

Salary:

 For all of the positions above the salary will be:-

 - Competitive (based on a 40 hour week)

 - Overtime is likely to be available

 - Small annual discretionary bonus depending on overall company

   performance.

 - Use of company vehicles for site work.

In addition to the above specialist skills, all candidates will need to have the following:

  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
  • Good computer skills - MS Office
  • Flexible and practical approach - we need "hands on people"
  • Self-motivation and a team player - your colleagues will be relying on you.
