BILLINGE HOSPITAL (2)

A return trip was immediately organised, and even a new camera was hastily ordered, one with a 28mm equivalent wide-angle zoom lens. Just Spook and me this time as Lillimouse had gone home by then

Entry was by the same route as first time and we headed straight to the old part along the corridor with the lights.

Just before the office with the sensor we saw this door, it was open and leads straight out to the gatehouse where the security guards are based so we took it that the guards patrolled inside, and could even be inside with us now. We decided to take our chances and carry on, we were too excited to turn back now.

We went upstairs trying not to make any noise with steel toecap boots on hospital corridors, impossible. There is a lot of expensive looking equipment left behind which was very interesting.

The old long wards had been split up with later partitions but we could still imagine what it had been like with beds all down the sides and Matron walking up and down.

Back downstairs at the far end we came to the Psychiatric wards, these were in quite poor condition compared with the rest of the building and it did appear the patients here had been treated second best.
