As
you approach The Rookery the beautiful coastal countryside cannot
be ignored. The Rookery is on the outskirts of the seaside village
of Walcott. On your arrival a real sense of calm and happiness
will overwhelm you and it is likely that you will be greeted by
residents and escorted to wherever you want to go. The welcome
by residents and staff is warm and genuine and is extended to
every visitor. The Rookery is home to 30 very special people all
with individual needs.

The
Care Home was originally opened in 1978 by the parents of the
present owner, Martin Bastow. The ethos of The Rookery is to provide
first class care by placing the welfare of the residents first.
A commitment to environmental issues and an awareness of those
responsibilities is built into company policies and procedures.
The
Rookery is set in approximately 28 acres of beautifully kept gardens,
paddocks and woodland and includes Barrington Farm a well kept
small rare breeds farm. We offer day services holiday facilities
and respite which makes it undoubtedly one of the finest independent
facilities for care in the UK as born our by our Care Standards
Commission Inspection reports and many other testimonials.

We
will welcome you to discuss care provision and show you how The
Rookery as part of Janith Homes Ltd is a facility providing excellent
care for the 21st century that has achieved Investors in People
status.
The Rookery accommodation includes a traditional 18th Century
Manor House where residents receive individually planned twenty-four
hour care. Also there is a range of tastefully converted buildings
and purpose built bungalows offering similar care. This enables
individuals, small groups and couples the opportunity of greater
independence.

Our day care focal point has to be the arts centre - where we
specialise in enabling people with special needs to express themselves
and find a voice through their creativity. Some of our artists
have shown their work both at home and abroad. We also have a
rare breeds farm and there are opportunities to spend time on
the farm, caring for a wide range of animals such as cows, pigs,
sheep, chickens, ducks, rheas, geese, peacocks and turkeys. There
is plenty of opportunity for the Residents to help collect eggs,
assist the farmer to shear sheep and watch over the birth of baby
animals or help maintain the land or grounds.
Residents also regularly attend our classroom on site and enjoy
all types of lessons - from letter writing to languages, computers
and history.
We
also attend local colleges for computers, literacy, cookery, woodworking
and various other courses. We have regular Makaton / sign language
courses for staff and residents. This enables simple but comprehensive
communication within the home and helps everybody gain confidence
and learn from each other.
We
have created a settled and harmonious atmosphere where all religious
beliefs and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientation, tastes and
idiosyncrasies are catered for. We offer an environment that fosters
personal development and helps residents make their own unique
contribution to daily life, without pressure to succeed at a set
rate or in a certain manner. The Rookery and Barrington Farm offer
a place where adults with learning difficulties can find a positive
role within the community, make choices, benefit from the facilities
that we offer and where we can nurture resident's individual talents.

It
is our belief that no matter what a persons existing ability,
every individual has potential beyond their assumed level. So
we provide our residents with the comfort and space to achieve
new goals, live their life to the full and have a meaningful day
every day.
