Framing Design
What constitutes good framing design?
When you look at a framed painting, you see the image before you look at the frame. The painting to the right has an extruded aluminium frame and a wide mount with gold c-slip edge - a very simple elegant presentation.
The framing should never be considered in isolation, but should compliment the surrounding decor and enhance the image. There is no single correct way to frame every image, but a number of solutions.
Any well presented framed image should also be able to remain looking good even if placed in different surroundings.

Oil paintings require a different style of framing compared to paper based images. The density of colours in oils usually means a wider and chunkier frame, frequently ornately decorated.
The addition of a linen liner between the oil and frame can help focus the eye on the painting rather than a frame.
Small oil paintings look best framed in very chunky frames, as it makes them look important.
