Contemporary is a wide term, but covers any painting
that looks modern. The subjects can be very varied, not just abstract.
They can be new interpretations of traditional subjects like still
life or landscape, or have the bold use of colour to create a
desired effect.
Frequently contemporary paintings are large
and only one or two individual pieces are hung in a room to
maintain an uncluttered feeling. Smaller contemporary paintings can
be hung in pairs or clusters.

Some of these paintings are framed, but many
are gallery stretched (GS) - designed to hang on the wall without
a frame. Occasionally framed contemporary paintings also require glass,
as they are paper based.
