Besides
antique prints, there are antique plates that are still used today
using the traditional methods for printing. These are often described
as late editions or restrikes as the original plates and printing
process have been used.
One company, Thomas Ross Ltd, has been
in business for over 300 years and has over 11,000 plates in stock.
Their web site has over 5,000 images to choose from and any of their
images can usually be obtained within a few working days and
then framed to your taste.
There
are still some artists who use old methods to create new original
prints. These can be defined as short run Original Print limited editions;
these have no original painting to be reproduced from, as
the plate is the original.
Currently Just Paintings have some large
and small traditional etched images plus some colourgraphs (etched
plates with embossed texture and gold hand finishing) by Kent artist
& printmaker Mark Spain and some medium to small coloured
aquatints by Dorset printmaker Valerie Christmas A.R.A.
