The Green
Party in Kirklees has made progressive gains at both a Local Authority
and Parish level since Nick Harvey first became a Green Party Councillor
for Newsome ward 1996. Andrew Cooper is now elected to serve in this ward until 2012.
After the
first win in Newsome ward, the Green Party went on
to win and gain control of all three seats, then hold Newsome through
each successive local election, even after boundary changes in 2004.
Ward Surgery and contact details of the present Local Authority Councillors for Newsome and Kirkburton can be quickly
found using the links.
In addition
to the your Local Authority councillors, the Green Party has seen increasing
voter support across Kirklees and for the electoral period ending May
2011 it has thirteen Parish seats. Eleven are within the Kirkburton
Ward where we are now the largest party group. Since May 2007 we also have one Parish Councillor on Holme Valley Parish Council and one on Denby Dale Parish Council.
Details of Parish Councillors can be
quickly found below using the links.
Our continued
public support has been largely due to the work done by the Green Party
with and on behalf of local communities and the positive impact of green
policies in the Kirklees area. Across Kirklees our vote is growing with
strong support not only in the Newsome and Kirkburton Wards but also in
a number of wards in other Colne Valley and Huddersfield constituencies and in Dewsbury, where a local branch was formed in 2006.
To
all those who vote for us, thank you. The Green Party Councillors and
team are pleased to represent and support your community.

He is a retired Senior Lecturer in Engineering so has the time to put into representing Brockholes effectively on the Parish Council. Les has been a member of Holmfirth Harriers since 1957 and is an active member of Action for Rural Rights of Way (ARROW). As well as being a Green Party member Les also practices what he preaches. He grows most of his own fruit and vegetables and has solar panels on his house to generate electricity and produce hot water.
