HEENAN WC 212/214

Heavy duty water cooled eddy current drive

The HEENAN 212/214 series drives and couplings are heavy duty water cooled units capable of providing high starting and running torques.

Thse units are ruggedly constructed for long performance in arduous conditions, with four bearings for rotating parts and low-power DC excitation coils. The units provide complete control of torque and speed without harmful supply harmonics or RFI effects.

In operation, a smooth bore hollow input drum is driven at a fixed speed by a prime mover (normally an AC industion motor). A multi-polar output rotor is free to rotate within the drum, with a narrow radial gap between the two. When the stationary low-power DC coil is excited with a controllable level of DC current, a magnetic linkage is established between the rotating members and torque is transmitted from the input drum to the output rotor/shaft. Controlling the DC field current varies the torque transmitted by the unit.
