logo (2K) XRPD - X-RAY POWDER DIFFRACTION

This powerful analytical technique makes use of the interaction of monochromatic X-rays with the 3-D ordered structure of all polycrystalline materials. Essentially, all crystalline substances exhibit a unique X-ray diffraction pattern, which can be used quantitatively to identify "unknown" materials and quantitatively to determine how much of a given substance is present in a mixture.

Examples include the characterisation of food products such as meat and cheese salts and the identification of the components in baking powders (the type of flour or starch present in these can be identified using optical microscopy).

Recently XRPD was instrumental in the development of food grade sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) when the manufacture of this product was transferred from one of our customer's sites to another. XRPD was also used in the development of a tabletting grade of STPP for the detergents industry.
