Born in Dewsbury, Myvanwy gained her BMus (Hons) and MA in music at the University of Huddersfield, where she studied singing with Patricia Hamilton. During her time at University Myvanwy performed as a soloist on many occasions, most notably in the Chamber Choir’s rendition of Poluenc’s Gloria, for which she received the Music Department Prize for Contribution to Concert Life. In 2003 Myvanwy won the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival Rose Bowl and was named the Kirklees Young Musician of the Year. Myvanwy continued her vocal studies at the Royal Academy of Music graduating in 2005 with distinction in her Postgraduate Diploma. Whilst at the Academy Myvanwy took part in masterclasses with Robert Tear and performed in many operatic scenes. Since leaving the Academy Myvanwy has performed with British Youth Opera in Eugene Onegin, Summer 2006, Morley College Opera, December 2007, Unexpected Opera, Summer 2007 and has undertaken the role of Adele in Die Fledermaus with Alternative Opera, February 2007. In April 2008 Myvanwy will perform the role of Peep-Bo in The Mikado for Kentish Opera. She has performed as a soloist extensively with Choirs and Orchestras throughout West Yorkshire including Holmfirth Choral Society, Honley Male Voice Choir, Huddersfield Choral Society Youth Choir, Huddersfield Singers and Wakefield Grammar School Foundation, as well as undertaking numerous solo recitals. She has also performed with Aylesbury Festival Choir and Forest Row Choral Society. Her oratorio repertoire includes Haydn’s Nelson Mass, St. Theresa Mass, Harmony Mass and Little Organ Mass, Handel’s Joshua and Dixit Dominus, Mozart’s Requiem and Dominican Vespers, Poluenc’s Gloria, Beethoven’s Symphony Number 9, Rutter’s Requiem and Mass of the Children, and Pehkonen’s Russian Requiem. Currently Myvanwy is one of only seventeen singers on English National Opera’s unique Opera Works programme. She continues to study with Jennifer Dakin and is performing on a regular basis as well as teaching for Bromley Youth Music Service and Blackheath Conservatoire of Music & Arts. Myvanwy joined the SPO as a member of the second violins in October 1997 and left in June 2003 to take up a place at the Royal Academy of Music. This is her third appearance with the SPO and she is delighted to be back performing with them again.
