Martyn Jackson

 

At the age of 19, Martyn is already an accomplished solo performer, giving numerous recital and concerto performances throughout the UK and Europe. He currently studies with Professor Itzhak Rashkovsky at the Royal College of Music, having studied with Professor Jan Repko in his first year. He previously studied with Deirdre Ward at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music.

When he was only 10, Martyn appeared in a Channel 4 documentary entitled “Don’t Stop the Music” with the conductor Simon Rattle . He has participated in master classes with Emmanuel Borok, Leland Chen, Michael Davis, David Greed, Katherine Hunka, Gordan Nikolitch, Nicholas Ward and Wen Zhou Li.

In March 2006, Martyn won both 1st prize and audience prize at the Trafford Young String Player of the Year 2006 and was also a string semi-finalist at the BBC Young Musician of the Year. In 2005 he was the recipient of the Junior RNCM Rohi Gazder prize for violin.

Since his concerto debut at the age of 14, Martyn has given many concerto performances and recitals throughout the UK and Europe, including the Bruch First Violin Concerto and Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending with the Todmorden Orchestra; Mozart's Violin Concerto No 5 with the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra; both Bach's Violin Concertos and Schubert's Rondo in A major with the Sale Chamber Orchestra; Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending and Saint-Saëns Havanaise with the Pennine Spring Festival Orchestra and the Yorkshire Youth Orchestra.

Martyn recently gave the world premiere of Schubert’s Serenade (Leise flehen meine Leider) arr. Ian Stephens at the Pennine Spring Music Festival. Future engagements include concerto performances with the Arion Orchestra, The Orchestra of the Square Chapel and PSFM Orchestra in the 2007-08 season.

He is a former member of The National Youth Orchestra (co-leading in his final year) and The National Children’s Orchestra. He has taken part in several music festivals, including the Lake District Summer School and the Interharmony International Music Course.
