Wildstar has been selected for vigour and speed of growth. Experimental sites of Wildstar are yielding growth of up to 3 metres after just 3 growing seasons.
Improved Timber Quality
No Losses & No Grey Squirrel Damage
Wildstar has strong apical dominance & light branching. With Summer pruning of laterals in first 15 years, should get 8 metre clean bole. Planted at 7.5 metre spacing - monoculture or interplanted (see below).
Wildstar are selected from mature successful specimens around Britain for their resistance to bacterial canker. Prunus avium is also resistant to grey squirrel damage. So expensive losses will become a problem of the past.
Wildstar can be planted either as:- a monocrop interplanted with other species - these would need coppicing/thinning Plant in single lines at 6 metres eg stewardship headlands
