Wildstar - Research Background. |
Wildstar is the result of a project started in 1989 at HRI East Malling, led by Karen Russell & Ken Tobutt. This was done under the Farm Woodland Improvement Scheme funded by DEFRA (formerly MAFF). Good mature trees of P.avium were identified from a number of sites around Britain. Collected material was grown, assessed and tested over a number of seasons. |

Wildstar - Commercialisation. |
After signing the licence agreement with HRI in December 1999, the culture vessels of Wildstar were passed to Micropropagation Services (EM) Ltd of East Leake, Leics. This company is experienced in micropropagation (plant tissue culture) having been in business since 1984, producing young plants for the hardy nursery stock industry. One particular speciality is the supply of ornamental broadleaf trees for amenity use, such as Betula jacquemontii. |
