Fifth round of the MSA British Historic Rally Championship. The event took place in the beautiful Berwickshire countryside of South-east Scotland on 5/6 July 2003, and comprised some 106 stage-miles over 15 closed-road special stages, linked by road sections totalling some 155 miles.
The weather on Saturday was appalling and the stages very slippery following several days of recce-ing. But despite a few 'moments' we managed to stay out of trouble. Swinton (11 miles) was awesome, particularly the yumps and the cross-roads, which we took flat-out, and Abbey St Bathans (16 miles) was interesting in the fog. Wet weather is always a great leveller, and at the end of they day we were running 8th!
The weather on Sunday was better and the tarmac pretty dry which brought the significant power advantage of the 2 litre BDA engines back into play, but we still managed some respectable stage times, and eventually finished 10th overall and 2nd in class (C5). We even picked up our very first award when we crossed the finishing ramp!
