This was the sixth round of the MSA British Historic Rally Championship, and took place in the Isle of Man over two days on 31st July and 1st August 2003. The event comprised some 108 stage-miles over 15 closed-road special stages, linked by road sections totalling some 126 miles.
The weather was pretty miserable for the Thursday late-afternoon Castletown start, and we struggled to develop a rhythm for the first few stages. The fourth, (IOM Steam Packet Marine - 5 miles) was a particularly challenging stage running along the twisty cliff road to the South of Douglas docks, with big drops to the left and a little fog -just to make it more interesting! Most enjoyable of all were the two runs through the streets of Castletown (1.4 miles), which were lined with spectators even though it was well after 10.30pm - fantasitic!
The weather on Friday was clear and dry, and our progress was steady but uneventful during the remaining stages. We eventually arrived at the finish (alongside the world-famous TT Grandstand) 15th overall (Post Historic) and 7th in class (C5).
