The penultimate round of the MSA British Historic Rally Championship, which took place in the forests around Pickering, North Yorkshire on 27th September 2003 and comprised some 64 miles over 9 special stages, linked by road sections totalling some 88 miles.
The weather was unexpectedly sunny as we made a steady and uneventful start through the short spectator stage around Pickering showground. But we suffered a couple of half-spins on each of the next two stages, and by service we were lying 14th. The next 3 stages were less eventful, and we particularly enjoyed stage 6 through Dalby Forest (Givendale -16.5 miles).
At the final service we decided to try a softer tyre on the rear, which seemed to improve grip through the remaining 3 stages. Despite another half-spin on the final stage (Gale Rigg - 7 miles), we finished 10th overall (Post Historic) and 5th in class (C5) - our best finish on a forest event so far.
