This is Bear, he's an English Angora. Bear
was left outside to fend for himself in all weathers, housed in a small wire
cage with no shelter. Someone found him and took him to a vet to be
clipped and cleaned up. The person who found him hadn't realised he
would be so active and high maintenance so she contacted us to ask if we
would take him in.
We know nothing of his age or his
history, but he is the most beautiful and sweet natured bunny in the world.
He never bites or scratches and never holds a grudge! He's also been
taking assertiveness training on the sly, and lately has been known to come
charging out from under the bed grunting and growling only to stop at your
feet, gaze innocently up at you with his big brown eyes and present his head
for petting! Bless him!
We think he'd possibly been confined to a cage
for most of his life and hadn't had much (or any) exercise. The muscle
tone in his back legs was very poor and his back legs are a bit deformed, as is
one of his back feet, but this doesn't hinder him much and he can now jump
up onto beds and chairs. The first time we let him out to run about, he
didn't know what to do with all the freedom. After a couple of days
running around in his own room (one of our spare bedrooms), he attempted his
first binky. It wasn't very successful, his back legs got tangled up
and he landed in a heap! He now does a rather delightful 'harrier jump
jet' impression instead, straight up into the air and back down again, with
no fancy stuff!
Bear has the run of his room all day and is only
shut in his cage when we go to bed at night. He's let out again in the
morning and is kept safely behind a baby gate during the day. He has
exceptional toilet habits and only ever wees in his litter tray.
In the top left picture, Bear's coat is quite long but
it was starting to pick up twigs, dirt etc. and beginning to get knots in it, therefore he needed clipped. The
picture on the right was after he'd been clipped.
We would like to rehome Bear to someone who has had experience of keeping angora's,
unfortunately there aren't many of those in Scotland. Bear is
currently being sponsored by Auntie Suz.
Bear is now 'reserved' and will
soon be going to a wonderful new home to stay with his new Mam, Adele, at
Rabbit Guardian Angels
www.rabbitguardianangels.co.uk
We could not have hoped for a
better outcome for this wee man, he deserves all the pampering he's going to
get, he's a very special boy. Thanks Adele, you are indeed a 'rabbit
guardian angel' and just what he needs!
Update: Bear has now moved
to his new home and is lording it over three beautiful girly buns called
Shadow, Tilly and Rosie. What a lucky boy!!!
*sigh* I love happy endings!
Sadly Bear went to the Bridge
suddenly and unexpectedly on the 12th of August 2006
~ Binky free sweet little man,
you take a piece of my heart with you, we'll never ever forget you.
Tell all our spirit buns that we love them and miss them so, and one day
we'll all be together again, what a day that will be! ~
