Fundraising for C.A.R.R.O.T.
Jenny's Half Marathon Jennifer Kennedy from Glamis is took part in the Dundee Half Marathon on Sunday 26th June 2006 in an effort to raise funds for C.A.R.R.O.T.
Every penny she raised by running this half marathon will go towards paying the rescue’s veterinary fees which last year alone amounted to over £1200. As you know, we attempt to rescue and rehome a small number of the thousands of neglected, unwanted and abandoned pet rabbits dumped all over the UK. The rescue receives no government funding whatsoever and relies on fundraising and donations to function financially.
Sadly, some of the pet rabbits which come into our care of are not rehomable due to various health problems, these bunnies are kept at the rescue and will spend the rest of their lives in comfort, receiving the care, attention and love they deserve.
Jenny has had her own battles to contend with including having to wear a sacroiliac belt to ‘lock’ her pelvic bones to prevent pain during running, she's also given up smoking, and is overcoming metatarsal inflammation.
Jenny decided to raise funds for C.A.R.R.O.T. Because she fully understands efforts made by the rescue and, due to having pet rabbits of her own, recoginses the importance of proper rabbit care.
Jenny says "No matter how much you say you love your bunnies, you need to make sure you are doing things properly with regards to their welfare. Many people seem to think that sticking a rabbit in a hutch and keeping it there for the rest of it's life is 'normal', I think it's horrifying that this line of thinking is still on the go, after all you wouldn't dream about doing that to a child so why do it to an animal? Rabbits need to have stimulation, companionship and exercise and I dread to think how many rabbits out there are suffering through the ignorance of it's owners"
Jenny completed the run well within her target time, and we're so proud of her! Once she has collected all the sponsor money in, we'll let you know how much she raised.
Here's Jenny crossing the finishing line:
And here she is with her medal:
Well done and thank you Jenny, you did us proud!
