It starts at the junction of the A4123 Birmingham - Wolverhampton Road with the A4037 Tipton Road.

It proceeds along Tipton Road, past the Guest Hospital to the Castle Gate Island and goes straight over onto the A461  & the Dudley Southern By-pass.

It exits the by-pass at Scotts Green continuing south along Stourbridge Road and into Dudley Road and Brierley Hill High Street.

It continues along Church Street in Brettel Lane.

At the junction with the A491 it turns left along High Street and finally goes full circle around the Stourbridge Ring Road.
