The Evening Mail (September 3rd)
reports that drivers in Shirley "see red over crackdown". On the first
Red Route
outside of London along the A34 in Solihull it is reported that "City
police and traffic wardens have started clamping down on illegal parking". The
article states that "Taxi drivers. motorists, delivery vans and even Securicor
trucks were all spotted on the double red line" and there is a photograph of a
Traffic Warden warning a Securicor driver.
Although it seems that police are initially issuing stern warnings to delivery drivers it is also reported that "in the four days police have been actively patrolling the route, they have handed out 55 £30 fines."
Meanwhile on the A34 north of
Birmingham the Express & Star (September 5th) reports that businesses in
Bloxwich "fear new proposals for ... a
red route
could kill off business altogether...
