OFFICIAL: There will be NO RED ROUTE
on the A461
BUT we
remain vigilant
(25/06/05)...
From recent events (June 2005) it would seem that there is continued pressure from National Government through Centro (an unelected Quango) to reintroduce this scheme but we understand that the eminently sensible elected representatives for the Dudley MBC have yet again unanimously rejected this attempt to subvert the will of the people.
Satire has a long and respected history. It is occasioned by fear and “seeks to exorcise the fragmentation, disorder, isolation, and meaninglessness which have historically been sensed by the Western mind as the great threats to the continuity of society and the welfare of the individual”. The Dictionary of the History of Ideas. Accordingly in this tradition our own Dean Seymour retells his own 'Orwellian' nightmare..."A memo has been leaked from future council meeting"... please click here to read on.

The Dudley MBC Executive have reviewed the proposals, considered the views of the Area Committees and taken account of the representations made by residents and business proprietors. At the Executive meeting on 17th December 2003 they decided unanimously to reject the Red Route proposed for the A461/A491/A4037. Here is their decision...
DUDLEY TO STOURBRIDGE (A461/A491/A4O37)
RED
ROUTE CONSULTATIONMEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE
(CHANGES TO POINT NO. 3.0)
3.0 PROPOSAL
3.1 That, following feedback from the consultation with residents, traders, businesses and the Area Committees the Executive rejects the current Red Route proposal.
3.2 That, prior to any future Executive consideration of Red Route locations within the Borough, officers instigate far more detailed consultation with residents, traders and businesses along any future proposed routes.
3.3 That a report be brought to a future meeting of the Executive should any future Red Route be suggested by CENTRO.
Our justification for 'WHY no red route?' concluded with the following statement.."We believe that the rejection of this proposal by the Dudley MBC Executive would demonstrate local democracy acting most effectively."
We would now slightly revise this to read...
We know that the rejection of this proposal by the Dudley MBC Executive has demonstrated local democracy acting most effectively." Thank you!
....& Thank you all(click here to see our acknowledgements of those who have supported our cause)
We believe there are still issues arising from our campaign despite this favourable decision and we will be addressing these over the next few days. They are not simply about Red Routes but are concerned with the true process of democracy. Check here for a new link.
The campaign team has formed an opinion about Red Routes in general. We do not believe they work particularly well in London and are of the opinion that they have little or no relevance to provincial roads. Accordingly this website will be actively supporting action groups in the Borough fighting further Red Route proposals (check out this link).
We will provide access to our site content to anti red route protestors throughout the UK. - further details to follow.
