New Policy introduced to reduce
Waiting List Dramatically

We are introducing a new policy to reduce the waiting list for all referrals immediately! Due to BOS guidelines we will see all referrals within the shortest time convenient for the patients to be able to better control their needs. This will eliminate for example, the situation of seeing patients too late who have reached or passed their pubertal growth potential and thus emphasise the policy of non-extraction orthodontic treatment approaches where possible here at Orthoscene. So please refer all patients that you feel may need orthodontic assessment and we will take it from there.

The latest Techniques in Orthodontics:–
a) Mini-implants / b) Invisalign

There are two new techniques that we would like to inform you about that we are involved in:-

a) Mini-implants in Orthodontics:-

Mini-implants are the adage to Orthodontic Care. We feel that this is not the treatment of choice in all cases when conventional techniques will do.

But in certain cases they are essential. For example in Adults when we have a compromised anchorage situation. Sonil Kalia has been involved in the Mini-implant systems.

Professor Dr. Birte Melsen, Head of Department, Royal Dental College, University of Aarhus, Denmark, is to give a lecture on Mini-Implants in relation to Orthodontics next year (time to be arranged).

Dr Kalia specialises in correcting dental and Jaw abnormalities, was recognised for his use of cutting edge dental technology at the practice, Orthoscene, on Ecclesall Road.

Prof. Melsen has a very impressive amount of research both clinical and histological data to be able to demonstrate the mini-implant usage in orthodontics. We will keep you updated and this should be very informative indeed.

Being previously involved in Implantology as a specialist, this is particularly interesting for me (Sonil Kalia). If you feel you have any patients where they could benefit from for example pre-prosthetic Orthodontics, please refer them. We will assess and inform you accordingly.

b) Invisalign:-

Sonil Kalia has been involved with this technique since 2002 and has successfully completed a large number of cases and has many cases in treatment. The technique is good but has limitations. We have a dedicated team for Invisalign here at Orthoscene and there are no upper age limitations. In fact we have a lady of 65 years of age in treatment with this technique! Please refer your patients for an assessment for this technique possibility.

The New PDS Contract and Orthodontics

The new orthodontic NHS contract has not been finalised as yet. We believe that the contract may be approved by the DOH and BOS in the new year. We will keep you informed as soon as we hear anything to ensure a smooth and continued quality care for the mutual benefit of our patients.

Still Staying on the Road

We are still dedicated to that non-extraction orthodontic treatment philosophy here at Orthoscene.

In House dedicated
Specialist Orthodontic Laboratory

We have had a Specialist Orthodontic Laboratory with technician on the premises since 2003 and this is a huge benefit for the continuation of quality orthodontic care at Orthoscene.
