We can provide private, public and voluntary organisations, community groups and individuals with information, advice and contacts on equal opportunities, the race relations act and wider racial equality issues, including research projects, training, campaigns, events, programmes and initiatives. Information can be given over the telephone or for further/more indepth discussions/information, meetings can be arranged.
We offer advice and assistance in tackling incidents in the following areas - employment, housing, education and public services - when involving allegations of racial discrimination/harassment.
We support individuals in building up a case and can then refer to suitable agencies to take the case forward to an employment tribual/court. Initial enquiries and advice can be given by telephone but appointments will be required for further/more indepth advice.
PREC are members of the 'Open Out Scheme', an initiative set up in Peterborough to provide accessible and convenient locations for people to report incidents of hate crime, which include racial harassment. We offer advice and support in completing Racist Incident Report Forms for referal to the city's Hate Crime Co-ordinator, who liaises with the Police, Housing and other support agencies to resolve the reported issues. Initial enquiries and advice can be given by telephone but appointments will be required for full reporting.
We offer advice and assistance with queries and applications covering sponsorship, visa extensions, indefinite leave, residence permits, passport re-endorsements, workers registration scheme and British Citizenship. In certain cases applications can be presented through us to the Home Office for reassurance that the rules and criteria have been met. We do not have sufficient resources to deal with immigration visa refusals but can make referral's to suitable agencies for this level of assistance. Initial enquiries and advice can be given by telephone but appointments will be required for indepth advice and applications.
We offer assistance with queries and problems linked to services received by individuals from the National Asylum Support Service (NASS) and with general queries regarding the Asylum System. We do not however, deal with Asylum casework which must be provided by a legal representative (Solicitor), of which we can make contact & refer to. Most assistance can be given without an appointment.
Peterborough Racial Equality Council is approved by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner to provide Immigration, Nationality and Asylum Advice at Level One, in line with the OISC current competencies, rules and codes.
